The most distinctive feature is the four-pocket utility configuration on the front, the protective high stand collar, and the throat latch strap designed to seal out harsh weather elements. This AW 2001 piece was designed by Paul Harvey, the legendary designer who took over after Osti. His inspiration for this era focused heavily on hybridizing natural fibers with industrial, man-made processes. Instead of keeping wool purely traditional, he treated a virgin wool outer shell with a thick polyurethane resin coating. This treatment was inspired by laboratory experiments to make a heavy, warm winter fabric entirely wind-resistant and water-repellent.
