The inclusion of safety-orange or crimson rows amidst grey bases mimics the high-visibility accent strips common in historical extreme-weather survival gear. The knitting style directly adapts traditional Scottish Fair Isle technique, which originated in the remote Shetland Islands. Historically, the intricate OXO geometric rows and stylised snowflake motifs were hand-knitted by the wives of fishermen using coarse Shetland wool.
